SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Carjacking, Unlawful Driving Away of and Automobile, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon arrest.
DATE AND TIME: Approximately 6:30 A.M on Thursday, September 2, 2021.
LOCATION: State Land near the intersection of Dick and Holland Roads, Fairplains Township.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a felonious assault that occurred in a wooded area near the intersection of Dick and Holland Roads in Fairplains Township. The call to Central Dispatch was made at 7:38 A.M. on Thursday, September 2, 2021.
It was reported that the victim, a 25-year-old Belding man, went to pick up Evaristo Hernandez, an 18-year-old Greenville man whom was an acquaintance, in Palo to give him a ride back to Greenville. While headed to Greenville, Hernandez asked the victim to stop at a State Land parking area near Dick and Holland Roads. Once at the parking area, Hernandez produced a gun, struck the victim, and demanded the keys to the vehicle. Hernandez drove away leaving the victim at the parking area. The victim walked to a residence and called Central Dispatch.
The deputies continued the investigation and received a tip on where Hernandez and the stolen vehicle may be found. The investigation led to a home on South Greenville Road in Montcalm Township where Hernandez and the stolen vehicle were both located. He was taken into custody without incident.
Hernandez has been charged with Carjacking, Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and is being held in the Montcalm County Jail in a $150,000.00 bond.
