NEWS MEDIA INFORMATION REPORT

SUBJECT OF RELEASE:  One car crash with injuries

DATE AND TIME:  Approximately 2:00 A.M on Friday, September 3, 2021

LOCATION:  South Greenville Road near the south County line, Eureka Township

AUTHORITY/CONTACT PERSON:   Sheriff Mike Williams

While on patrol, a Montcalm County deputy observed two vehicle parked along the roadside on Greenville Road south of Greenville.  As the deputy was stopping to check on them, one of the vehicles fled southbound.  The driver of the remaining vehicle relayed that he thought the driver of the fleeing vehicle was intoxicated.  The deputy attempted to catch up with the fleeing vehicle that was travelling at a high rate of speed.  As the fleeing vehicle continued southbound, it lost control and crashed into a tree just north of the County line.  The deputy was not able to open the doors of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado but with assistance of officers from the Greenville Department of Public Safety, entry was made into the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, a 45-year-old woman from Belding, sustained lacerations to her face and significant injuries to her right leg.  She was transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids by the Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash and the investigation is ongoing.
