SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2021 UPDATE

The Cranford Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Lt. Matt Lubin, Mayor Kathleen Prunty and Lt. Matt Nazzaro provided a post-storm update on 09/05/21 which can be found here:  https://youtu.be/-cwu-ekvuj0

FIRE DEPARTMENT PUMP-OUTS:
If you need your basement pumped-out by the Cranford Fire Department, please call their non-emergency line at 908-709-7360.

DAMAGED/DISABLED VEHICLES:
We understand that the process of reporting your vehicle damaged and in need of a tow may be prolonged, but we encourage residents who have not already done so to begin the process of removing vehicles from the roadway.  This will aid in the Township's debris removal.

DEBRIS PICK-UP:
Please continue your efforts to remove any debris from your homes and have it placed curbside for pick-ups by September 7th, 2021.  The Township of Cranford and Office of Emergency Management have arranged for debris to be picked-up beginning this week.  Please remove any vehicles from the roadway (especially vehicles that are not disabled and damaged) if able to do so in order to facilitate these pick-ups.  When safe and practicable to do, please separate metals, electronics, and all other debris and DO NOT PUT DEBRIS NEXT TO DISABLED VEHICLES.  NO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MAY BE DISCARDED.

HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL DAY - SEPTEMBER 12TH, 2021:
The County of Union is hosting a hazardous waste disposal day at Union County College Cranford on 09/12/2021 from 9:00AM until 12:00PM.  For details visit:  Household Special Waste – County of Union, New Jersey (ucnj.org)

FEMA:
The current FEMA declaration is an emergency declaration which provides key authority and support to OEM to respond to the emergency.

The State has requested a Disaster Declaration, which is being reviewed by FEMA. If declared, there is a possibility of an individual assistance component to assist residents with losses. We will distribute information pertaining to this once a determination has been made at the Federal Level.

The declaration process will not impact any insurance claims or flood insurance program claims – If you have insurance you should begin the normal claims process.

MENTAL HEALTH AND PERSONAL WELLNESS:
This storm and the ongoing recovery can have an effect on your mental well-being, your children's well-being, or your neighbor's well-being.  The Township of Cranford Office of Emergency Management would like residents to be aware of a great resource for mental health from the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress: https://www.cstsonline.org/resources/resource-master-list/202108-disaster-mental-health-resources-to-support-response-and-recovery-from-hurricane-ida#comm

Additionally, by accessing www.nj211.org (or just by dialing 2-1-1), residents can find a clearinghouse of information and resources organized by the State of New Jersey on the following topics:
HOUSING
INCOME
FOOD
CHILDCARE
HEALTH
MENTAL HEALTH
SUBSTANCE USE
LEGAL

COMMUNITY COOPERATION/ASSISTANCE:
Many community groups have begun grass-roots efforts to assist residents in need.  To offer assistance, please refer to the Cranford Jaycees sign-up list organized here:  Voluntèer Sign Up for Ida Flooding Response (google.com)

We continue to discourage any individuals from accessing affected flood areas without being a resident or having an official purpose for doing so.  Thank you for your cooperation in reducing unnecessary vehicular and pedestrian traffic in these areas.

SCHOOLS:
After speaking with the Superindentent of Schools, it has been confirmed that schools will open as planned.  Please consider that safe walking routes may be significantly affected as a result of this storm and the recovery.
