Man arrested for attacking victim with a hatchet

INCIDENT: Assault with a Deadly Weapon
LOCATION: Valley Boulevard / Vine Street, Bloomington
SUSPECT(S): Vincent Verna, age 32, a transient known to frequent Bloomington
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, Fontana deputies responded to an in-progress assault with a weapon. The reporting party told dispatch the suspect, later found to be Vincent Verna, a transient known to frequent the Bloomington area, struck the victim, who is also experiencing homelessness, with a hatchet and fled the area.
Upon arrival, deputies learned Verna was angry with the victim and swung a hatchet at him. The victim was not injured or struck with the hatchet. Deputies found Verna nearby and arrested him without incident. Verna was later booked into Central Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon.
