Advisory

Red Flag Fire Warning tonight through Friday 11:00 am

The National Weather Service has upgraded the forecast for the East Bay Hills to a Red Flag Fire Weather Warning beginning tonight (Thursday) at 5:00 pm.  This means that critical fire weather conditions will be occurring from tonight (Thursday) 5:00 pm through Friday at 11:00 am.  The red flag warning is due to the possibility of thunderstorms with dry lightning, which could be accompanied by gusty winds, along with very dry vegetation.  Lightning strikes could lead to fire starts, causing hazardous conditions and potentially extreme fire behavior.

Residents should take precautions and consider the following:

  • Avoid mowing or using equipment around dry grass;
  • Do not park vehicles on or drive vehicles through dry grass;
  • Report suspicious activity; and
  • Be aware of and report vertical columns of smoke in the area, which are different from the drift smoke from other fires that we have had in our area.

Please call 9-1-1 to report any fires or suspicious activity.  For more information about how you can prevent fires, please contact the Moraga-Orinda Fire District at 925-258-4599 or go to www.mofd.org. Thank you for helping us to keep Moraga a safe community.
