September 11 Ceremony at Veteran's Memorial Park in McHenry on Saturday 9/11/21 at 9AM

Saturday, September 11 the City of McHenry along with the nation will honor the people that lost their lives at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and Pennsylvania as well as those that put their lives on line to protect us & prevent any other such event from re-occurring.

At 9:00 AM a ceremony will be held in at Veterans Memorial Park. A moment of silence will be observed at 9:05 AM marking the time when the South Tower collapsed.  The McHenry County Chief’s Honor Guard will raise a flag that flew over Firehouse Engine 10 Ladder 10 located across the street from where Tower 2 of the World Trade Center stood. The flag was donated to the city by local businessman Mark Justen.  Unfortunately, Mr. Justen passed away in March of 2020.  The city will fly the flag in honor of those tragically and in Mr. Justen’s memory.

The McHenry High School Choir, under the leadership of Derek Galvicius, will perform the national anthem and another commemorative song after speeches by Mayor Wayne Jett, Police Chief John Birk and McHenry Township Fire Protection District Chief Rudy Horist.  Each Chief will lead a ceremony of remeberance that will be accompanied by bag pipers from the Northern Illinois Pipes and Drums.

The public is invited to join in the commemoration of the tragedy that occurred September 11, 2001 and to recognize the many examples of heroism, bravery and generosity that were put forth that day and that continue to be present.
