INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Church Avenue & Stratford Street, Highland, CA
DRIVER1: Nicholas Wilburn, a 19-year-old resident of Highland, driving a 2015 Ford F150
DRIVER2: Mark Bocanegra, a 52-year-old resident of Highland, driving a motorized scooter
SUMMARY: On Saturday, September 11, 2021, at approximately 8:15pm, Mark Bocanegra was riding his 50cc motorized scooter southbound on Church Avenue, between Pacific Street and Baseline Street. At the same time, Nicholas Wilburn was driving north on Church and completed a left turn onto Stratford Street. The front of the scooter collided into the passenger’s side of the Ford causing major injury to Bocanegra. Life saving measures were administered by deputies and the Highland Fire Department. Despite efforts, Bocanegra died at the scene.
