Notable Cases

On Monday, 09-06-21 at 4:30 p.m., Officer Todaro and Officer McQuade were dispatched to an apartment on the 100 block of South Mayfair Avenue on a report of an unknown transient male who was refusing to leave from inside an apartment. The back door was open, and Officer Todaro positioned himself there while Officer McQuade was at the front door. Officer Todaro announced his presence, and a male subject walked out of the residence and was immediately detained. Officer Todaro conducted a walk-though of the apartment and saw that it was very dirty, covered in trash, and appeared to be occupied by “squatters. The resident of the apartment had been away for a couple of weeks, and she said no one was staying in the apartment while she was gone. A female subject approached the residence and told the officers that she was there to see a “friend”. The female had the victim’s iPad in her hand. The male subject, a 28-year old Daly City resident, was subsequently arrested for trespassing and a probation violation. The female subject, a 39-year old Berkeley resident, was arrested for burglary.

On Thursday, 09-09-21 at 2:33 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the 700 block of Skyline Drive on a report of a paraglider who crashed into a home. The 34-year old reporting party heard a loud crash on his roof and went out to the front yard where he saw a paraglider on the ground. The paraglider, a 33-year old San Francisco resident, complained of pain to his lower back but said he did not lose consciousness and was able to feel all of his extremities. Paramedics treated the paraglider and transported him to the hospital.

On Friday, 09-10-21 at 1:14 a.m., Officer Abuan pulled over a car after the driver made an illegal and unsafe U-turn on Sullivan Avenue near Pierce Street. The driver exhibited signs of being under the influence. The driver, a 40-year old Daly City resident, failed the field sobriety tests, and the officer cited him for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Friday, 09-10-21 at 1:15 p.m., Officer Chow was dispatched to a residence on the 100 block of Huntington Drive on a report of a woman who refused to leave the residence. The 40-year old reporting party said his ex-girlfriend was trespassing, and he wanted her to leave, but she did not want to leave. The reporting party signed a citizen’s arrest, and his 40-year old transient ex-girlfriend was booked into jail.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
