Red Flag Fire Warning for East Bay Hills beginning at 11:00pm
The National Weather Service has upgraded the forecast for the East Bay Hills to a Red Flag Fire Weather Warning beginning tonight (Sunday) at 11:00 pm. This means that critical fire weather conditions will be occurring from tonight (Sunday) 11:00 pm through Monday at 8:00 pm. The red flag warning is due to the possibility of strong, gusty off shore winds, low humidity values and very dry vegetation. These conditions can cause new fire starts to grow rapidly, causing hazardous conditions and potentially extreme fire behavior.
Residents should take precautions and consider the following:
- Avoid mowing or using equipment around dry grass;
- Do not park vehicles on or drive vehicles through dry grass;
- Avoid having any outside fires;
- Report suspicious activity; and
- Be aware of and report vertical columns of smoke in the area, which are different from the drift smoke from other fires that we have had in our area.
This is also a good time to think about how you and your family will prepare for the potential for PG&E Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) in the future weeks. While there is a PSPS scheduled for Monday, Contra Costa County is not included. However, with the continuing dry weather and off shore winds, we could be subject to a PSPS in the near future. Are you prepared for your electrical power to be shutoff for up to 72 hours? Go to www.pge.com for more information about how to prepare for a PSPS.
