INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Adelanto Road / Air Expressway, Adelanto
SUSPECT(S): Involved Party #1, Ysidro Pinon, 21-year-old male, Adelanto resident, silver 2011 Ford Fusion
VICTIM(S): Involved Party #2, April Lyon, 41-year-old female, Adelanto resident, tan 1999 Chevy Tahoe
SUMMARY: On Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 5:57 p.m., deputies from the Victor Valley Station’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to a fatal traffic collision at the intersection of Adelanto Road and Air Expressway in Adelanto. The victim, April Lyon, drove west on Air Expressway, east of Adelanto Road. Lyon's husband sat in the front passenger seat while her 6-year-old son sat in the rear seat behind Lyon's husband.
Independent witnesses said westbound Air Expressway's traffic light was green, and northbound Adelanto Road's traffic light was red. The driver of a silver 2011 Ford Fusion, later identified as Ysidro Pinon, drove north on Adelanto Road, south of Air Expressway, and failed to stop for the red traffic light. Pinon broadsided Lyon's vehicle on the driver's side causing Lyon's vehicle to roll over an unknown number of times. Lyon was ejected from her vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Lyon's husband and son were airlifted to Loma Linda University Hospital for major injuries.
Pinon sustained moderate injuries and refused to be medically transported.
Further investigation is needed to determine whether alcohol and/or drugs was a factor in the collision.
