Deputy Discovers a Loaded Firearm During a Traffic Stop; Erik Chavez-Garcia Arrested

INCIDENT: P.C. 25850(A), Possession of Concealed, Loaded Firearm in Public
LOCATION: Barton Road / Preston Street, Grand Terrace, CA.
SUSPECT(S): Erik Chavez-Garcia, 23-year-old resident of Perris
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On September 17, 2021, at approximately 2:53 a.m., Deputy O. Ramos from the Sheriff's Central Station conducted a traffic stop on a silver Lexus for vehicle code violations on Barton Road and Preston Street in Grand Terrace.
Ramos advised the driver, Chavez-Garcia, the vehicle would be towed for expired registration and asked him to exit the vehicle to conduct an inventory search. During a pat down search of Chavez-Garcia, Ramos located a loaded 9mm Glock 19 firearm in his right waistband. The firearm was loaded with a 10-round magazine and was registered to Chavez-Garcia.
Chavez-Garcia was arrested for P.C. 25850(A) and was booked into the Central Detention Center where he is being held on $25,000 bail.
