Please be advised, Crane Trail, the multi-use path that crosses through the interior of the Island from the intersection of Shell Road and Stable Road to Ben Fortson Parkway near the Circle K gas station, will be closed for a period of time beginning today, September 27th.
This closure is necessary while a conservation project is being carried out to restore and enhance tidal flows into the interior marshes in the vicinity of the trail.
This project is supported through the Conservation Incentive Grant (CIG) which is managed by Georgia DNR with federal funding from NOAA.
A bridge that crosses the tidal canal on the trail will be out during the project to allow for the installation of a living shoreline. A culvert that conveys tidal water under the trail will also be replaced and enlarged during this time.
Crane Trail is anticipated to reopen in mid-October.
