Fatal traffic collision 
On Sunday, September 26, 2021, at 8:52 p.m., a solo vehicle struck a pedestrian in the 1100 block of Leavesley Road. The area is east of the Gilroy Premium Outlets and boarders unincorporated Gilroy. Responding Gilroy officers, a citizen, and Cal Fire attempted lifesaving efforts but the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
CHP and the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office responded and assisted with road closures. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The Gilroy Police Department Major Accident Investigations Team (MAIT) responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was on the north side of Leavesley Road walking westbound in the roadway wearing dark clothing. A vehicle traveling in the same direction collided with the pedestrian. Drug and/or alcohol intoxication do not appear to be a factor in the collision at this time.
The pedestrian has not been identified. We are working with the County of Santa Clara Medical Examiner/Coroner’s Office to determine their identity.
