On July 12, 2021, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety released information about the July 8, 2021 arrest of Medical Doctor Todd Yao (DOB: 11/18/1970) for sexual battery. As a result of the press release, an additional victim came forward in early August to report she had also been sexually assaulted by Yao.
The victim, a female in her mid-fifties, was a patient of Yao's in August of 2020. Yao befriended the victim and offered to treat her medical condition. The friendship was strained when he began making sexual advances towards the victim on multiple occasions. The victim delayed reporting the incidents due to suspect Yao's social status as a Medical Doctor, but ultimately decided to report the incident for fear there could be other victims. Yao was arrested again on September 24, 2021, pursuant to a warrant for an additional count of sexual battery (California Penal Code section 243(a).
