Crime Blotter for the week of September 19 - September 25, 2021

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of September 19, 2021– September 25, 2021.        
 
September 19, 2021

  • Petty Theft (Shoplifting)
1450 Mountain Avenue (Harbor Freight). A male adult wearing a grey sweatshirt, red shorts and a blue hat entered the location and stole a “Hercules” demolition hammer. An employee saw the suspect exit an area for employees only and then exit the store with the demolition hammer without attempting to pay for the item. The employee observed the suspect enter a red colored Honda compact vehicle. The employee statements were corroborated with store surveillance. Loss was approximately $400.    
 
September 20, 2021
  • Burglary (Vehicle):
800 Block of Miltonwood Avenue. The victim reported suspect(s) unknown broke the lock to his toolbox that is attached to his Ford F250 truck and stole his work tools.  Loss was approximately $1,500. 
 
September 21, 2021
  • Grand Theft:
1857 Business Center Drive (Element Material). An employee for the location stated she observed a dark-skinned male Hispanic adult wearing a black hat, white shirt and black shorts riding a black mountain bike take two boxes from the shipping and receiving area. Loss was approximately $2,200. 
 
September 22, 2021
  • Attempted murder:
1200 block of Galen Street. The victim was seated in his vehicle at the location, when he observed an unknown silver late 1990’s model sedan, possibly Hyundai Sonata with tinted windows approach and pull alongside of his vehicle. The victim heard the sound of a gunshot and immediately realized he had been shot. The suspect vehicle driven by unknown persons fled the area. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Shotgun pellet holes were observed in the vehicle and evidence was recovered at the scene.
  • Burglary (commercial):
1937 Huntington Drive (Wang’s Beauty Salon). Suspect(s) unknown entered the location by shattering the front window. The location was ransacked, but nothing appeared missing. The business sustained approximately $1,000 in damages. 
  • Burglary (commercial):
1314 Duarte Road (La Paloma Bakery). Suspect(s) unknown entered the location by shattering the front window. The location was ransacked and the cash register was stolen. Loss was approximately $400 and the business sustained approximately $600 in damages.  
  • Grand Theft Auto:
1300 Block of Broadland Avenue. The victim’s 2006 Chevy Silverado was stolen from the location. Vehicle recovered in East Los Angeles after registered owner observed vehicle driving with an alternate license plate. Video surveillance of occupants as they fled the vehicle.
  • Grand Theft Auto:
900 Block of Newington Street. The victim’s 2003 GMC C2500 Sierra was stolen from the location. Vehicle recovered by Lakewood Sheriff
 
September 23, 2021.  
  • Domestic violence:
988 Hamilton Road (IHop). The victim and his girlfriend were parked at the location discussing relationship issues. The discussion turned into an argument, so the victim attempted to leave. The suspect prevented the victim from exiting the vehicle and assaulted him. The victim was eventually able to exit the vehicle where he ran across the street and used an unknown persons phone to call “911”.
   
September 24, 2021
  • No significant activity.
September 25, 2021
  • Assault with a deadly weapon (knife):
2705 Huntington Drive (7-eleven). The victim was at the location when he and another customer began to argue. An employee from the location requested both disturbing parties leave the location. The victim told the other customer “I’ll meet you outside”.  Once both parties were outside, the victim approached the other party, when he produced a knife and was stabbed in the abdomen. The suspect fled the location in a newer silver Hyundai 4 door sedan. Victim transported to the hospital for treatment of his stab wound. Video surveillance available.  
  • Petty Theft (Shoplifting):
1450 Mountain Avenue (Harbor Freight). A male white adult wearing a green sweatshirt, black shorts and a black hat entered the location and stole a “Titanium” welder.  An employee saw the suspect exiting the store with the welder without attempting to pay for the item. The employee observed the suspect walk north through the parking lot and out of view. Loss was approximately $600.    
 
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS 
 
We recommend you take the following steps in protecting your property and to discourage would-be criminals from committing auto burglaries or theft from unlocked vehicles:
  • Do not leave valuable items visible in your car. Car Burglary and theft from unlocked vehicles is a crime of opportunity, be sure to keep your car clean from any clutter. 
  • Don’t think your dark tinted windows will hide your valuables. Thieves often use flashlights to see through tint.
  • Close all windows and lock all doors before leaving your vehicle.
  • Park in well-lit, heavily populated areas.
  • Make a copy of your registration and insurance, and keep them in your wallet or purse.  Then remove all forms of identification from your vehicle.  Anyone with permission to drive your vehicle should also have a copy of the registration and insurance with them to furnish to the law enforcement if necessary.
  • Do not leave garage door openers in parked vehicles.
  • If you are parking your vehicle for several days check on it periodically.
  • Inspect your vehicle regularly, thieves often times will remove license plates or replace them with stolen plates from stolen vehicles or take vehicle registration tabs.
  • Secure truck tail gates- tail gates are stolen due to the ease of removal.
  • Catalytic converter theft is on the rise, get your converter engraved with some sort of identifying number on it.
