Crime Alert Bulletin
When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.
Notable Cases
On Monday, 09-20-21 at approximately 2:40 a.m., Officer Reininger was dispatched to the area of West Market Street and Mateo Avenue on a report of a vehicle that hit the wall of a building and was stopped on the side of the road. The reporting party believed the driver was intoxicated. Officer Greene responded to assist Officer Reininger in giving the driver field sobriety tests. The driver, a 38-year old Daly City resident, failed the tests and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
On Tuesday, 09-21-21 at 9:00 p.m., Officer Smith was dispatched to the Safeway store on a report of a male yelling and attempting to hit someone with a bottle. When Officer Smith arrived, he saw two Westlake security guards standing with a subject on the sidewalk. The subject was angry and agitated when the officer spoke with him. The manager of Safeway said he was near the front entrance of the store when he observed the subject walking out with a full cart of unpurchased items. The manager said a security guard confronted the subject, and the subject became confrontational when the security guard stopped him. The manager said the subject grabbed a bottle of wine from the cart, exited the store, and threw the bottle of wine onto the ground, causing the bottle to shatter. The subject then got into his vehicle and drove out of the parking lot. A short time later, the subject drove to the front of the store and parked his vehicle in the parking lot roadway. The manager said the subject walked back to the store to confront the security guard. Once inside the store, the subject took soda cans from the shelves and threw them onto the floor, causing the cans to explode and make a mess. The manager did not want to sign a citizen’s arrest, but he wanted the officer to tell the subject to not return to the store or he would be arrested. Officer Smith advised the 28-year old transient subject to not return to the store or he would ostensibly face being arrested.
On Wednesday, 09-22-21 at approximately 4:25 a.m., Officer Moody and other officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Belcrest Avenue on a report of an in-progress catalytic converter theft from a Toyota Prius. Officers stopped the suspect vehicle in the area, and they found a shell casing on the floorboard of the vehicle. After the officers removed the three occupants from the vehicle, they found the catalytic converter that had just been stolen and another catalytic converter in the trunk. In addition, the officers found a loaded stolen firearm in the vehicle. All three subjects, two males in their 30’s from Oakland and a 23-year old female from Oakland, were arrested for charges including vehicle tampering, grand theft, vandalism, conspiracy, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, tampering with a firearm, possession of controlled substance paraphernalia, and possession of burglary tools.
On Wednesday, 09-22-21 at approximately 5:20 a.m., Officer Jackson was dispatched to Seton Medical Center on a report of a subject who was brought in by the San Francisco Fire Department for a Fentanyl overdose. The hospital staff treated and cleared the subject from the hospital, at which time the subject went into another patient’s room and put on the patient’s jacket. The nurse said the subject left the area but returned back to the hospital. The nurse said the subject dropped a toolbox, flashlight, blanket, and DMV paperwork outside the emergency room door. The security guard told Officer Jackson that he chased the subject out of the hospital and lost sight of him near the loading dock area. The reporting party checked the loading dock area and discovered the window of one of the hospital service vehicles was smashed. Items that were taken from the vehicle were the same items that were dropped at the emergency room door. The whereabouts of the suspect were unknown at the time, but it was later determined that the subject, a 27-year old transient, committed another auto burglary on the hospital property. The subject was arrested for burglary.
On Wednesday, 09-22-21 at 5:30 a.m., Officer Moody was dispatched to the Valero Gas Station on Skyline Drive on a report of a just-occurred auto theft. The victim left his vehicle running with his cellphone inside the vehicle and walked into the gas station. While the 41-year old victim was inside the gas station, he saw a subject enter the driver’s seat of his vehicle and drive out of the parking lot. The phone “pinged” in the area of Westlake Park, and officers were able to find the suspect walking in the area. The suspect had the victim’s phone in his possession. Officers arrested the suspect, a 31-year old Pacifica resident, for receiving stolen property.
On Friday, 09-24-21 at approximately 7:27 p.m., officers responded to a residence on the unit block of Woodrow Street on a report of a fight in which one of the involved subjects reportedly had a samurai-type sword. Officer M. Martin arrived and said officers already had detained the suspect. Officer Martin talked to the suspect’s girlfriend in order to locate the sword. The 27-year old girlfriend said she had taken away the sword from her boyfriend and voluntarily escorted the officer to the garage and handed him a large sword. The girlfriend asked for the officer to take the sword and not return it. The girlfriend told the officers that her boyfriend had a long history of not getting along with his neighbors. On this occasion, she said her boyfriend approached two of his neighbors and held a samurai-style sword and began swinging it around, threatening to “kill” them. The girlfriend was able to take the sword away, and she said a physical altercation ensued between one neighbor and her boyfriend. Another neighbor tried to break up the fight, and, in the process, that neighbor fell to the ground—possibly breaking his leg. Officers arrested the boyfriend, a 43-year old Daly City resident, for assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats.
Subsequent to a traffic stop by Officer R. McCarthy on Friday, 09-24-21 at 10:12 p.m., a 44-year old McKinleyville resident was cited for being a felon in possession of a stun gun, possession of pepper spray, possession of controlled substances (Heroin and Fentanyl), and for possession of a prescription drug (Xanax) with no prescription. His passenger, a 41-year old San Francisco resident, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. This occurred outside of 441 Westlake Shopping Center.
On Friday, 09-25-21 at approximately 7:37 a.m., Officer Perdomo arrested a 25-year old Daly City resident for driving under the influence of alcohol following a medical call where the fire department found the driver unconscious in the driver’s seat of his vehicle at the intersection of San Pedro Road and Junipero Serra Boulevard.
On Sunday, 09-27-21 at 5:41 p.m., Officer Perdomo and Officer Mendiara were dispatched to the emergency room at Seton Medical Center regarding a staff member who was assaulted by a patient. The emergency room nurse said an intoxicated patient was brought in by ambulance and initially was cooperative. The patient, a 43-year old transient, then tried to get out of bed several times. Because it was a safety risk, the hospital staff decided to place the patient in soft restraints. As the staff tried to hold down the patient, the nurse said the patient grabbed her right breast and squeezed down, causing extreme pain. The nurse said the patient became verbally abusive and used derogatory terms to insult the staff. Because the nurse wanted the patient arrested, Officer Perdomo placed the patient under arrest for sexual battery. The patient was also found to be a felon in possession of a stun gun and pepper spray, and those charges were also added.

There was one robbery during the past week.
On Thursday, 09-23-21 at approximately 9:09 p.m., a security guard at Nordstrom Rack saw two subjects walk into the store. One subject grabbed multiple purses, and the other subject stood in line at the register. The 33-year old security guard said the subject with the purses walked towards the registers but then continued past them to the exit doors. The security guard attempted to cut off the subject, and the subject used pepper spray on the guard. Both subjects left the store with an unknown number of purses. The first suspect was described as a black female adult approximately 30 years old with long black hair, not wearing a mask, wearing a gray jacket, light beige sweatpants, brown UGG-style boots, and a red or orange cloth around her forehead. The second suspect was described as an unknown age black male, wearing a black mask and head covering, black Champion-brand sweater, dark jeans, yellow metal chain around his neck, and a black backpack on his back.

The reporting party said she returned home to find her backdoor open and saw a suspect whom she described as a Hispanic male between 18-24 years old with black curly hair, a red zip-up hoodie, and dark pants standing in her backyard. The subject left the yard in an unknown direction. The 33-year old reporting party said some doors in the residence were open, and she was confident that they were closed before she initially left the residence. The reporting party also said her television and PlayStation were on, and she had turned them off before leaving the residence. Nothing was stolen.
On Friday, 09-24-21 at approximately 4:20 a.m., a 52-year old Daly City resident (victim) was asleep in his room—a converted garage space on the 400 block of El Dorado Drive, when he heard a noise coming from the front sliding window. He said he then heard the blinds being lifted, and he got up and ran towards the window. He yelled at the person, opened the blinds, and saw a male subject running away from the residence. The victim could not see the subject’s face, and he could only say that the subject was a male, approximately 5’8”-5’9”, wearing all black clothing.
On Saturday, 09-26-21 at approximately 8:40 p.m., two unknown males forced their way through a security gate leading to the front door of a residence on the 100 block of Wilshire Boulevard. The 80-year old reporting party said she heard what she thought was the doorbell or a loud thud. She went to the door area and saw two subjects standing in the doorway, attempting to lean out of the light.
