Tewksbury Community Well Testing
Heavy rains and flooding increase the risk of well water contamination from septic systems and stormwater. It's important to take preventative measures to ensure your water is safe to drink. This October, Tewksbury Township Environmental Commission, in partnership with local nonprofit watershed association Raritan Headwaters, will offer well water testing to residents at below-market cost. Well testing kits may be purchased in advance at www.raritanheadwaters.org/Tewksbury and picked up at the Tewksbury Twp. Municipal Building, 169 Old Turnpike Rd. on October 12, 13, 19, or 20, 8:00am to 3:30pm. After you collect your samples, you will return the tests to the Municipal Building from 7:00-9:30 AM on either Thursday, October 14 or Thursday, October 21. Test results are confidential and will be sent to you about two weeks later. All testing is done by a state-certified laboratory.
Raritan Headwaters offers a “basic kit” for coliform bacteria, E.coli and nitrate for $60. It is recommended that these tests be done once a year on every private well. Residents can also test for other contaminants such as lead and arsenic at an additional cost (see www.testmywell.org for more information and pricing). If you would like assistance in deciding what to test for, please contact Mara Tippett, Raritan Headwaters’ well test manager, at 908-234-1852, ext. 401 or [email protected].
