On Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Fairfield Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will provide the public the opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to the police department at 1000 Webster St for this Drive-Thru event. Unlike previous years, this year the drop-off location will be accepting liquids. Please be sure all medications are sealed tightly in a Ziploc bag.
(Sites cannot accept needles or sharps, only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
This is a Drive-Thru event in the visitors parking lot of the Police Station and City Hall, located at 1000 Webster St. Please follow the directions of police staff on-site. To keep everyone safe, the collection site will follow local COVID-19 guidelines and regulations.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the United States are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.
Unused prescription drugs thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused or illegally sold. They also pose an environmental threat when improperly flushed down the toilet. Proper disposal of unwanted and unused prescription drugs saves lives and protects the environment.
