Public Works:
• Make sure to store and secure garbage cans, dumpsters, and any other personal items to keep from blowing over.
Wrangell Municipal Light & Power:
• If the power goes out, ensure that you have a flashlight or headlamp ready, with fresh batteries. If you choose to use candles, please be sure that they are placed at least one foot away from flammable objects, such as furniture, curtains, paper, plants, or electronics. Use a sturdy candle holder and place on a stable and heat-resistant surface.
Ports and Harbors:
• Boat owners – please check on vessels and make sure that the tie-lines are secure, bilge pumps are on, and tarps and personal belongings are tied down or stored inside the vessel.
• Check the marine weather forecast before heading out of the harbor. Hazardous marine conditions are expected.
Storm Warning in effect for Southeast Alaska. High, damaging winds and heavy rains expected through Saturday at 6:00am.
National Weather Service has issued a STORM WARNING for Southeast Alaska.
What to expect: High winds and heavy rains.
- Winds 25-45mph with gusts to 75mph
- Widespread Gale Warnings through inner channels with storm force gusts possible
- Sustained storm force winds in Stephens Passage, far Southern Chatham Strait, Sumner and Clarence Straits
- Storm to hurricane force winds along outside waters
- Additional 2-3inches of rainfall
- Expect large rise in rivers
- Landslides are possible
- Very high seas
