Sun Prairie High School Threats Call

Sun Prairie Police Department Media Release
From: Lieutenant Ryan Cox
Date: October 7th, 2021
Subject: Sun Prairie High School – Potential Threat to School Staff

On Thursday, October 7th at approximately 11:15am, the Sun Prairie Police Department along with Sun Prairie High School staff received information referencing a student who posted several images on Snapchat. One of those images included a statement made towards a staff member, and a separate post had an image of a handgun.

Sun Prairie Police Officers immediately responded to the scene and assisted staff in locating the student. Officers and staff confirmed that the student did not have a weapon on them, and additional efforts were made at the school to confirm no weapon was on school grounds.

The student in question is currently still being interviewed. The firearm observed in social media messaging was located off of school grounds. All information at this point indicates the firearm was never on school grounds during today’s incident.

The Sun Prairie Police Department is continuing to work with Sun Prairie High School and School District staff to conduct the investigation.

This is still an active investigation, and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sun Prairie Police Department Non-Emergency Line at 608-837-7336, or anonymously at 608-837-6300.
