Location: Carter High School - 2630 N. Linden Ave., Rialto, CA 92377
Suspect: Jovan Rudell Smith, 18-year-old (Adelanto Resident)
Synopsis:       
On October 8, 2021, at 10:20 AM, officers from the Rialto Police Department responded to Carter High School regarding an adult male being detained after bringing a firearm on campus.  Officers learned Smith was roaming the campus without a pass and fled from Rialto Unified School District Safety officers when they attempted to contact him.  Smith was located and detained at a nearby park without incident shortly thereafter. It was then discovered Smith was in possession of two loaded handguns, which had been concealed in a backpack, but never brandished.  Smith was taken into custody at 10:40 AM and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for PC 626.10 – Weapons on School Grounds, with a bail amount of $25,000.  The Rialto Police Department and Rialto Unified School District worked in concert throughout the investigation and will continue to do so.
