Effects:  Waves are expected to reach the high surf advisory level criteria established by the National Weather Service for the effected shoreline.

The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Honolulu uses the following surf height criteria for the issuance of High Surf Advisories for all Maui County islands, in coordination with emergency management agencies and water safety organizations.

Ranges for:

North Facing Shore -  15 to 24 ft

West Facing Shores -  12 to 19 ft

East Facing Shores -  10 to 14 ft

South Facing Shores -  10 to 14 ft

All surf height observations and forecasts are for the full face surf height, from the trough to the crest of the wave.

Impacts:  Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents, making swimming and other ocean activities difficult and dangerous. 

 

Precautionary Measures:  Beach goers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials, and exercise caution. Boaters should expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing harbor channels to access surfing areas.
