San Leandro Police Investigative Shooting, Leaving Two Shot

On Sunday, October 10th, at about 9:30 PM, the San Leandro Police Department's Communications Center began to receive phone calls regarding the sound of gunfire on the 500 block of Victoria Court.  Upon officers' arrival, they found evidence of a shooting, including nearly 40 shell casings.  Officers learned two groups of subjects were engaged in dialogue, which quickly escalated into seven people producing firearms and the groups shooting at one another.  Two victims were self-transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.  Both victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

San Leandro Police Detectives were summoned to the scene and are conducting a follow-up investigation.  Based on information developed by detectives, this was a targeted attack as the groups appeared to know each other.

There is no active threat to public safety or the area where the shooting occurred.

"It is intolerable that several suspects would indiscriminately begin to shoot near a highly populated residential neighborhood. We could very well have bystanders who inadvertently become victims of such a heinous, violent crime," said Lieutenant Matthew Barajas.

Anyone with information is urged to call Detective Sampson at 510-577-3244.
