PUBLIC NOTICE: Reference Spoof / Scam calls
The Vigo County Sheriff's Office has received complaints today from numerous people receiving spoof or scam calls from a detective. Should you receive a phone call from a detective with our agency, they will NOT “threaten” you with failure to appear charges or legal action, directing you to make any type of payment. If you are contacted by a detective or deputy and believe it is a scam of some sort (requesting funds - wire transfer, checks, cash, etc), it is not a legitimate phone call.
If you believe the call may be legitimate, but are in question, simply state you are going to hang up and contact the Sheriff’s Office to reach them back.
