On Tuesday, October 12, 2021, the Ontario Police Department demonstrated true excellence through teamwork during the pursuit and capture of 4 suspects wanted for attempted robbery, carjacking, and assault with a deadly weapon. 


The attempted robbery of an elderly woman occurred at our local Walmart. 911 calls started coming in and the suspects fled the location in a vehicle.  The vehicle was located after it hit on our FLOCK Cameras and we learned this vehicle was involved in a carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon earlier in Riverside County. During that incident, the suspects led members of the Riverside Sheriff's Department in a pursuit, but unfortunately the suspects got away. 


OPD officers were able to catch up to the suspects' vehicle and attempted to stop them. The suspects continued to make poor decisions and refused to yield. They led officers in a lengthy pursuit into Riverside County. 


OPD dispatch did a stellar job handling the radio traffic, making notifications to all other agencies, continuing to handle other emergency incoming calls for our City, all the while coordinating with RSO.


The pursuit ended when the suspect vehicle collided into a fence and the four suspects fled on foot.  All four suspects were taken into custody without further incident, and one firearm was recovered.


This incident is just one example of what our dedicated men and women do, every day, to protect and serve our community to the utmost of our ability.
