Winter Preparedness Info
It's that time of year again to make sure you're signed up for the correct notification systems and take steps to be sure you're prepared for a Teton County winter.
Notification
  • Nixle has changed the way they process notifications, so if you notice you are no longer receiving text notifications (like for this email), be sure to download the Nixle mobile app. Text the word APP to 888777 to download the app today. Find Teton County Emergency Management in the app by searching for zip code 83001. Alternatively, you can delete your email address from your Nixle account at www.nixle.com to be sure you get Advisory level text messages.
  • All the roads you care about (Teton Pass, Snake River Canyon, Hoback Canyon, N Highway 89 in Grand Teton National Park) are state highways. If you want to know about those closures, sign up for WYDOT's 511 Notify service. WYDOT does an incredible job of keeping the public informed of their highways’ statuses through this system, and it is highly customizable, so you are alerted only for the roads you care about.
  • Check out the attached Winter Road and Weather Info slides for tons of resources you can get on your mobile device right now so you’re in the know when winter weather hits.
Preparedness
  • Get your vehicle ready. Check out the attached graphics for info on winter vehicle safety, chain law, and no unnecessary travel advisories. Check out www.wyoroad.info for other great resources and highway closure maps from WYDOT.
  • Bookmark www.weather.gov/riw for the latest weather. The National Weather Service also has a great webcams by route page that allows you to see WYDOT’s webcams all on one page.
  • Help out our amazing local firefighters by keeping fire hydrants near your home or business clear of snow so they can be quickly accessed in an emergency.
  • When we get hit by a big winter storm, check on your neighbors to be sure they’re ok. Not everyone can shovel snow or get out on winter roads to get supplies and medications when conditions get bad.
  • Visit Winter Weather | Ready.gov to learn more about winter weather preparedness.
