On Monday, October 18, 2021, at approximately 6:51 p.m., Public Safety Dispatchers received multiple 9-1-1 calls. Callers reported a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Agnew Road and Garrity Way. Members of the Santa Clara Police and Fire Departments arrived on scene and provided first aid.
A preliminary investigation by our department revealed the driver of the vehicle was traveling east on Agnew Road. The pedestrian was in the marked crosswalk on Agnew Road, between Lafayette Road and Garrity Way. The driver of the vehicle did not see the pedestrian in the crosswalk resulting in the collision.
The 30-year-old pedestrian sustained major injuries, was transported to the hospital and later succumbed to their injuries. The 67-year-old driver of the automobile remained at the scene and cooperated with our investigation. Alcohol and drugs did not appear to be a factor.
Our Traffic Investigators arrived to process evidence and reconstruct the collision, which remains an active investigation.
