Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of October 11-17, 2021

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday, 10-11-21 at approximately 11:14 p.m., Officer Greene conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Bruno Avenue and School Street. Through the course of the investigation, the driver provided a false name and date of birth to the officer. Officer Greene said as he was speaking to the driver, the driver spit in the officer’s face. As Officer Greene and Officer Leyson were attempting to detain the suspect, the suspect bit Officer Leyson’s knee. The suspect, a 30-year old Richmond resident, was arrested for providing false information to a police officer, resisting a police officer, and battery on a police officer. During an intake search at the jail, the jail staff found that the suspect had methamphetamine in his sock. Additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and bringing a controlled substance into the jail were added to the list of charges.

On Tuesday, 10-12-21 at approximately 8:15 p.m., Officer Moody was on patrol in the Westlake Shopping Center parking lot and saw a female with a phone in her hand who was slumped over the center compartment in her vehicle. Officer Moody saw the suspect’s open purse on the passenger seat and saw a clear plastic baggie with residue in the bag within the purse. With the increasing rate of fentanyl overdoses in the opioid crisis, the officer wanted to make sure the female was okay. He attempted to wake her up by shining his flashlight in the direction of her face. Because that did not work, the officer knocked on the window, and the female woke up, saying she was just tired. After an investigation, Officer Moody cited the female, a 32-year old Pacifica resident, for possession of a controlled substance.

On Wednesday, 10-13-21 at 3:21 p.m., Macy’s Asset Protection Agent signed a private citizen arrest form for a subject who shoplifted $883 worth of clothing. Officer R. McCarthy arrived to assist and found the subject, a 29-year old San Francisco resident, had burglary tools in his possession. The officer initially was going to issue a citation to the suspect and asked how the suspect was going to leave the store. The suspect pointed to his scooter, which later turned out to be stolen from San Francisco. Officer R. McCarthy booked the subject in jail for possession of a stolen vehicle, shoplifting, and burglary tools. During an intake search at the jail, the jail staff found that the suspect had methamphetamine in his possession. Additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and bringing a controlled substance into the jail were added to the list of charges.

On Wednesday, 10-13-21 at approximately 9:11 p.m., an unknown suspect fired five 9mm rounds into the front door of an apartment on the 800 block of Hillside Boulevard. No one was inside the apartment at the time of the incident, and this investigation is continuing.

On Thursday, 10-14-21 at approximately 10:26 p.m., a 19-year old Daly City resident was stabbed in the neck by an unknown suspect. This occurred in the breezeway area north of the Mattress Firm at Westlake Shopping Center. The victim said he was talking to his friend while in the breezeway and  when he saw a man “lurking about”, he told his friend to put away her phone. The victim said he then felt pain in the back of his neck. The victim could only describe the subject as a possible white male in his 30’s, slender build, dark facial hair, wearing a black jacket or hoodie, black backpack, and blue jeans. The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment.

On Saturday, 10-15-21 at 6:52 p.m., a 54-year old San Bruno resident reported an unknown subject shot into his driver’s side door near the handle following a “road rage” incident that occurred on Junipero Serra Boulevard near John Daly Boulevard about 15 minutes prior. The victim said the suspect vehicle was a black 2004-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee with at least three occupants. This investigation is continuing. The reporting party was unharmed.

On Sunday, 10-17-21 at approximately 12:45 a.m., a 25-year old Daly City resident was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol following a non-injury collision at the intersection of Evergreen Avenue and Peoria Street.

“Daly City” Sweepstakes Scam

For the past month, a 63-year old Daly City resident (victim) has purchased gift cards totaling $7,500 in U.S. dollars and given to a representative from the "Daly City Sweepstakes". The victim said she was told the money she provided was for a processing fee and would allow her to collect $500,000 dollars in prize money. The victim said she was told that the Mayor of Daly City was to deliver the money that afternoon, and if she did not receive the money that afternoon, she could request a refund which would be issued in approximately nine months. The officer warned the victim that she was being scammed and not to send any more money to the representative, as this was fraudulent organization.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
