Truck Catches Fire in Single Vehicle Collision

Passenger: 17 year-old male, resident of Redlands
SUMMARY: On Friday, October 22, 2021, at approximately 8:14 p.m., deputies from the Yucaipa Sheriff’s Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Yucaipa Boulevard and 5th Street in the city of Yucaipa. Deputies arrived on scene to find a 1957 Chevrolet pickup had collided with a parked vehicle and caught on fire.
Investigators from the Region I Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the location to investigate the collision. MAIT personnel determined a black sedan was exiting Market Place entering traffic on Yucaipa Boulevard. The Chevrolet was traveling west on Yucaipa Boulevard and swerved to avoid a collision with the black sedan. The Chevrolet left the roadway, collided with a parked vehicle, overturned, and caught on fire. The two occupants of the Chevrolet managed to exit the vehicle and had injuries sustained from the collision. Both occupants were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
