Advisory

Potential Storm Impact for our area on Tuesday.

Potential Storm Impact for our area on Tuesday.
Attention Residents,
The Carlstadt Office of Emergency Management is keeping an eye on the Nor’easter which may impact our area tonight and tomorrow morning. This storm has the potential to bring with it a large amount of raid and possible high winds. As of the writing of this alert, the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood WATCH for our area until 5:00 PM on Tuesday.  Their statement reads as follows:
A rapidly developing low pressure system south of Long Island will likely produce heavy rainfall across the region. Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches with locally higher amounts are possible.
Rainfall rates may exceed one inch per hour at times. Heavy rain may produce areas of flash flooding.”
Due to this warning, the OEM staff would ask all residents to please prepare for the potential flooding as best as they can. If your home has a sump pump, please make sure it is working and that the outflow is not blocked or will pump to an outside flooded area.  If possible, if you are in an area that floods, remove what items you can from the lower portions of your house so that any damage is minimalized.

There is also the potential for High winds. Please secure any outdoor items. You should also prepare for the possibility of a power outage. Please use flashlights or electric lanterns instead of candles to prevent a fire hazard.

As usual, we remind all to avoid any area which is or appears to be flooded as well as any downed wires.

All residents should be informed that the Office of Emergency Management is erring on the side of caution with this storm. Forecasts at the time of preparing this notice are a bit inconclusive as far as the track of the storm is concerned. This storm could bring nothing or up to 5 inches of rain to our area. We are only informing and asking residents to prepare for the potential worse case with this storm.

Should you have any questions or needs during or after this storm, please contact the OEM Director at 201-362-1942.

Yours in Preparedness
