Advisory

State of Emergency issued; flood watch begins at 8 p.m.; discounted parking is available; avoid flood-prone areas

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the Office of Emergency Management have issued a State of Emergency starting at 8 p.m. tonight due to an incoming nor'easter that could cause flash flooding.  Governor Phil Murphy has also issued a State of Emergency beginning at that time.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Hudson County and the surrounding area starting tonight at 8 p.m. continuing through tomorrow afternoon. Heavy rainfall with totals of 2 to 4 inches of rain is predicted and locally higher amounts of rain is possible.

Any intense rainfall of greater than 0.8 inch per hour may result in flooding in low-lying areas.

Hoboken’s Office of Emergency Management encourages residents to avoid travel and to stay home during the storm and State of Emergency.

Avoid flood-prone areas

The North Hudson Sewerage Authority and the Department of Environmental Services has been clearing all inlets and catch basins of debris.

Residents are urged to move cars from flood-prone areas as flooding is possible at low-lying, flood-prone intersections.  OEM has posted “No Parking Signs” in these areas, which should be taken as advisories. Cars will not be towed. Barricades will be deployed near flood-prone intersections. DO NOT MOVE OR DRIVE AROUND BARRICADES. Do not walk through floodwaters.

The City has launched an online beta flood mapping tool that members of the Hoboken community can use to stay up to date on current flooding conditions. Map users can use a computer or smartphone to report flooded areas, the extent of flood conditions, flooded vehicles, and areas where floodwaters have receded.

Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970.

Discounted parking is available

Reduced rate parking of $5 per 24-hour period is now available in Garages B (28 2nd St.) and D (215 Hudson St.) and the Midtown Garage (371 4th St.) for residents with Resident On-Street Parking Permits or Temporary Parking Permits. Discounted parking is scheduled to end tomorrow, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m.

Secure loose objects

NWS predicts wind gusts of 40 to 50 MPH.

Residents should secure all loose objects outside or bring them inside, especially on balconies. Outdoor tents should be taken down depending on the wind load.

Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.

Please report power outages and downed wires to PSEG at https://nj.myaccount.pseg.com/myservicepublic/outagepublic
