The National Weather Service in Upton has issued a

* Flood Advisory for... Bergen County in northeastern New Jersey... Essex County in northeastern New Jersey... Hudson County in northeastern New Jersey... Passaic County in northeastern New Jersey... Union County in northeastern New Jersey... Bronx County in southeastern New York... Kings (Brooklyn) County in southeastern New York... Nassau County in southeastern New York... New York (Manhattan) County in southeastern New York... Southeastern Orange County in southeastern New York... Queens County in southeastern New York... Richmond (Staten Island) County in southeastern New York... Rockland County in southeastern New York... Southern Westchester County in southeastern New York...

* Until 1015 PM EDT.

* At 711 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain shifting south and west through the area. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Newark, Jersey City, Jamaica, Yonkers, Paterson, Elizabeth, Flatbush, New Rochelle, Flushing, Passaic, Bayonne, White Plains, Wayne, Mott Haven, Levittown, Hoboken, Plainfield, Bloomfield, East Tremont and Hackensack. Additional rainfall amounts of mostly a half inch to an inch, with isolated amounts up to an inch and a half are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
