Ocean Front Rohnert Park!

Do you identify Rohnert Park with Bodega Bay, Timber Cove, or Fort Ross?  Well, a Sonoma County commission is recommending that Rohnert Park residents be lumped with all of west Sonoma County into a new county supervisor district, District 5.  We would inherit the current supervisor for Sebastopol, Forestville, Guerneville, and the Sonoma Coast.  But it is not too late.

The next stop for the county supervisor redistricting maps is the board of supervisors themselves.  In the past, the board of supervisors has divided Rohnert Park into two districts, diluting our voting power.  Residents of Rohnert Park share:

• A unified school district

• Public transportation infrastructure 

• Water and wastewater system

• Public safety services  

• Public City facilities

And should be considered a single community of interest. All Rohnert Park residents should be represented together in one district. Dividing the City into two districts dilutes the voting power of Rohnert Park citizens to come together and elect our representative. And we should be in a district along with south-central Santa Rosa along the 101 corridor.  Not grouped with residents of Sea Ranch who live two hours away.  You might be thinking, “Where’s Sea Ranch?”  Exactly!

How you can get involved

Send your own letter to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors requesting that they consider the City of Rohnert Park as a single community of interest and urging them to select a district boundary map that puts the City of Rohnert Park in one supervisorial district, ideally District 3 with a portion of Santa Rosa, and not District 5 with the Sonoma Coast.

• Provide comment and testimony during the redistricting process in 2021. Draft maps are up for consideration on November 2, followed by an additional public hearing on November 16, 2021.

• View draft maps and find more information about the County’s Redistricting sonomacounty.ca.gov/redistricting

• Draw and submit a map using the public mapping tools provided on the Draft Maps page.

• Submit written feedback to the board of supervisors via email at [email protected]

¡Ocean Front Rohnert Park!

¿Suele asociar Rohnert Park con Bodega Bay, Timber Cove o Fort Ross?  Pues bien, una comisión del Condado de Sonoma ha decidido recomendar que los habitantes de Rohnert Park se engloben con todo el resto del Condado de Sonoma para formar un nuevo distrito supervisor del condado, el Distrito 5.  Con ello, recibiríamos el supervisor actual de Sebastopol, Forestville, Guerneville y la Costa de Sonoma.  Pero todavía estamos a tiempo de evitarlo.

La siguiente parada para la redistribución de mapas de distrito del supervisor del condado es la propia junta de supervisores.  En el pasado, la junta de supervisores ha dividido Rohnert Park en dos distritos, lo que diluye nuestro poder electoral.  Los habitantes de Rohnert Park comparten:

●   Un distrito escolar unificado

●   Infraestructuras de transporte público

●   Sistemas de aguas y de aguas residuales

●   Servicios de seguridad pública 

●   Instalaciones urbanas públicas 

Por todo ello deberían considerarse como una comunidad individual con los mismos intereses. Es decir, todos los habitantes de Rohnert Park deberían estar representados en un solo distrito. Dividir la ciudad en dos distritos diluye el poder electoral de los habitantes de Rohnert Park y su capacidad de unirse y elegir a nuestro representante. Deberíamos estar en un solo distrito con Santa Rosa del sur central en la carretera 101.  No agrupados con residentes de Sea Ranch que viven a dos horas de distancia.  Usted debe estar pensando: "¿Dónde queda Sea Ranch?"  ¡Exactamente!

Cómo participar

Envíe su propia carta a la Junta de Supervisores del Condado de Sonoma solicitando que consideren a la Ciudad de Rohnert Park como una única comunidad de interés y pedirles que elijan un mapa de límites distritales que ubique a la Ciudad de Rohnert Park en un distrito de supervisión, idealmente el Distrito 3 con una parte de Santa Rosa, y no el Distrito 5 con la Costa de Sonoma.

1. Exprese sus opiniones y testimonios durante el proceso de redistribución de distritos en 2021. Los borradores de mapas se evaluarán el 2 de noviembre, seguido de una audiencia pública adicional el 16 de noviembre de 2021.
