CAR BURGLARIES ARE ONCE AGAIN ON THE RISE - LOCK YOUR VEHICLES!
CAR BURGLARIES ARE ONCE AGAIN ON THE RISE - LOCK YOUR VEHICLES!
During the past few weeks, we are once again seeing an increase in the number of thefts from automobiles occurring here in Lighthouse Point. In every case, the criminals are entering unlocked vehicles and stealing miscellaneous property. A review of video surveillance in the neighborhoods clearly depicts criminals bypassing locked vehicles and only targeting those vehicles that were left unlocked.
While the Lighthouse Point Police Department has had success in apprehending many individuals responsible for these types of crimes in the past, these crime trends will continue unless homeowners start locking their vehicles to deter criminals from coming back to Lighthouse Point. Failing to do so is putting citizens and our police officers at risk! We are finding that more and more of these criminals are committing these crimes while armed. Lighthouse Point Police recently arrested a subject who had a stolen firearm in his possession while attempting to burglarize vehicles in Lighthouse Point. As most of you know, just a few weeks ago, a Hollywood police officer was shot and killed while responding to a call of a subject pulling on car door handles looking for an unlocked car to burglarize. The police officer was killed, but it could easily have been a homeowner who witnessed the crime and confronted the individual.
Please keep in mind, that as long as criminals continue to find easy targets here in our community, criminals will continue to return. Please help stop these crime trends by encouraging your family, friends and neighbors to follow these safety precautions. REMEMBER TO:
- ALWAYS LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS
- DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES INSIDE YOUR VEHICLE (ESPECIALLY FIREARMS)
- PARK YOUR VEHICLE IN A WELL-LIT LOCATION (KEEP HOME EXTERIOR LIGHTS ON AT NIGHT)
- DO NOT LEAVE KEY FOBS INSIDE YOUR VEHICLE
Instructions:
Lock your vehicles and remove all key fobs/valuables at all times!
