SUMMARY:

On Thursday, October 28, 2021, at approximately 8:09 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia Station, Officers from the California Highway Patrol and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a traffic collision on Ranchero Road, east of the intersection of Kourie Way, in the City of Hesperia.

Upon arrival, deputies determined there was a train crossing over Ranchero Road east of Kourie Way, causing eastbound traffic to back up toward the west. Driver 1 was driving a 2000 Harley Davidson Sportster west on Ranchero Road after making a U-turn due to the traffic delay. Driver 2, in a 2021 Toyota Highlander, was also stopped in traffic east on Ranchero Road and in the process of making a U-turn to go west.

As Driver 2 was completing the U-turn to go west, Driver 1 collided into the Toyota Highlander and left the roadway, which resulted in major injuries to Driver 1. Despite life saving measures, Driver 1 was pronounced deceased on scene by emergency personnel. Driver 2 did not sustain any injuries.

At this time, it is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the collision and the exact cause remains under investigation.

Ranchero Road from Kourie Way to Outpost Road was closed for several hours while deputies from the Hesperia Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) processed the scene and interviewed witnesses.

Anyone with information, or anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Deputy T. Rogoff or Deputy F. Zavala at the Hesperia Station.  Callers wishing to remain anonymous should contact the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME or go to www.wetip.com
