PRESS RELEASE

ROHNERT PARK – On 10/30/21, at approximately 9:33 PM, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety received a report of a structure fire at an apartment in the 7300 block of Boris Ct in Rohnert Park. A resident reported smoke and flames coming from the kitchen. One of the residents tried to use a hose to extinguish the fire; however, it had already began to burn out of control. The first Rohnert Park units arrived within two minutes and found heavy smoke and flames coming from inside the apartment. It was reported and confirmed all residents of the involved unit had evacuated. The fire was quickly extinguished by fire personnel and was contained to the kitchen area. Personnel from the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, Rancho Adobe Fire District and the Sonoma County Fire District responded to assist with firefighting efforts as well as station coverage.
During the firefighting efforts Rohnert Park Fire Fighters located and rescued a cat inside the apartment. The cat was assessed for injury and returned to its owner.
Based on an assessment of fire personnel on scene, the fire appeared to have been an accidental cooking fire in nature and was confined to the kitchen. The residents were not able to go back inside the apartment once the fire was extinguished as it was determined to be uninhabitable due to fire damage.
The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety would like to remind the public when cooking to continually monitor appliances as cooking products can quickly reach an ignition temperature and catch on fire.
