2021 NAMI Wisconsin Annual Conference
On Saturday 11-05-2021 Lieutenant Blaser will be presenting at the NAMI Wisconsin Annual Conference. The presentation will walk a group of non-law enforcement stakeholders through a critical incident. The incident will begin with the first realization that a friend or family member is in distress. It will walk them through their own decision making process as to who they would notify and when. It will provide them the opportunity to discuss and explain how they would like law enforcement to respond, how they expect law enforcement to respond, and compare it to how law enforcement may be required to respond.
The table top continues with a discussion of the follow-through considerations that many are not aware of. It will walk them through the labyrinth of the mental health process here in Wisconsin. There will be a discussion from the participants regarding what they would like to see happen and what the realities of the system require by statute. This will be continued with a discussion of the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (CSSrS), the Mental Health Awareness Flag (MHAF), and the Crisis Stabilization Information Sheet (CSIS). This table top discussion will elicit learning for all on both sides of the discussion.
This is a continued effort by the Janesville Police Department to partner with non-law enforcment stakeholders and the community on the topic of mental health. These efforts make for a safer more educated law enforcment response for those impacted by mental health.
