Crescenta Valley Deputies Arrest Several for Theft From Vehicle in La Crescenta

This morning at 1:30 AM, Crescenta Valley Station received a call for service on Ridgepine Drive, La Crescenta, regarding a victim who had witnessed a suspect stealing items from a vehicle.  Deputies responded and learned a male suspect had stolen several items from an unlocked vehicle.  The suspect was last seen driving away from the scene.

As Deputy Hansen investigated the crime, Deputy Swigart checked the area for any possible suspects.  As he was driving around the neighborhood, he saw a vehicle pull into a driveway.  The driver exited the car and went to the front door.  Deputy Swigart saw the male knock several times on the front door.  After a short time, Deputy Swigart began to wonder if the driver may be connected to the theft.  Deputy Swigart shinned his spotlight at the male and walked towards him.

Suddenly, the Deputy heard the homeowner yell that he did not know the man.  Deputy Swigart quickly detained the suspect without incident.  He, and other Deputies, went to the suspect’s vehicle and detained two more males.

After a search of the cars and suspects was conducted, they learned the male driver was in possession of brass knuckles.  Another occupant of the vehicle was found in possession of narcotic paraphernalia.  The third suspect had a card belonging to the victim on his person.  Several items belonging to the victim were recovered from the suspect vehicle.

All three suspects were arrested for the theft and booked at Crescenta Valley Station.  The homeowner who had the suspect knock on his door was thankful for our quick response (see the attached photograph).

Crescenta Valley Station would like to remind the public to lock their vehicles.  Also, please remember not to store valuable items in your car.  Often, thieves target vehicles that have valuables in plain sight.  Lastly, if you see something, say something.  This arrest would not have been possible without an observant resident.  It is collaborative efforts between our station and the public that enhance public safety.
