*UPDATE-ARREST MADE* #LASD Homicide Detectives Investigate Child Death, 18000blk Grace Lane, #CanyonCountry
Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 2 month old girl in Santa Clarita.
Deputies from Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station responded to a medical rescue, baby not breathing call in the 18000 block of Grace Lane in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 26, 2021. Upon arriving, deputies and fire department personnel discovered the two month old victim unresponsive.
The victim was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and ultimately transported to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where on September 29, she was pronounced deceased.
An exhaustive investigation led to the arrest of the victim’s father, Marcel James Taylor, a 26 year old Black man from Canyon Country.
Taylor was taken into custody at Santa Clarita Station where he was booked for murder and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury or death. He remains in custody in lieu of two million dollars bail. His arraignment is set for Monday, November 8, 2021, in San Fernando Court.
No other information regarding the victim or the investigation is being released at this time.

Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators responded to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a two month old girl from Canyon Country.
Deputies from Santa Clarita Station responded to an apartment in the 18000 block of Grace Lane regarding a medical rescue call of a baby not breathing early Sunday morning around 2:53 AM. Upon arriving, deputies entered the apartment and found the victim’s father performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the victim. Deputies continued CPR and carried the victim to awaiting fire department and ambulance personnel who transported the victim to a local hospital.
The victim was later airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles Sunday. Despite days long attempts to save her life, she was pronounced deceased this morning.
Homicide investigators respond to, and investigate, all child deaths that don’t involve obvious recreational or automobile accidents.
It is not known at this time if the victim’s death was a result of natural or other than natural causes. The cause of death will not be known prior to a postmortem medical exam conducted by the Office of Medical Examiner-Coroner.
The victim’s parents have been cooperative with the investigation and no arrests have been made.
As it is very early in the investigation, no further information will be released at this time.
