Investigation Update: Safeway Shooting Suspect Convicted, Second Suspect Arrested
UPDATE (3/7/22):
Shooting occurred in the Safeway parking lot at 406 N. Main St. – UPDATE: Suspect pleads guilty to two felony criminal charges; Second involved person arrested (Report #21-0733) On Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at approximately 8:35am, the Sebastopol Police Department received a call of a shooting that occurred in the Safeway parking lot, located at 406 N. Main St. in Sebastopol. Based on information received by Sebastopol Police Department dispatchers, officers located an adult, male victim in the 6800 block of Sebastopol Ave. The victim suffered from a single gunshot wound to his leg, and he was transported to an area hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries.
The suspect was last seen fleeing the area northbound on Hwy. 116 in a red, older model, 2-door sedan with a black or missing hubcap on the rear driver’s side tire and possible damage near the passenger’s side rear wheel area. The suspect was reported to be the passenger in the fleeing vehicle, and the driver was described only as a female with blonde hair.
On Friday, November 5, 2021, at approximately 7:30am, the United States Marshals and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), with the assistance of the Reno, Nevada Police Department, arrested the suspect in the 1900 block of S. Virginia St. in Reno, Nevada. The suspect, Anakin Daniel Roy Taylor (DOB: 05/07/1999), was taken into custody without incident.
Taylor was held in the Washoe County, Nevada Jail and later extradited to Sonoma County on three felony criminal charges, including 245(a)(2) PC – Assault on a person with a firearm, 29800(a)(1) PC – Possession of a firearm by a felon, and 246.3(a) PC – Willful negligent discharge of a firearm.
On Thursday, March 3, 2022, Taylor plead guilty to two felony criminal charges, including 245(a)(2) PC – Assault on a person with a firearm and 29800(a)(1) PC – Possession of a firearm by a felon, and was sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in prison.
On Monday, March 7, 2022 at 11:05am, Dawn Mackenzie-Powell (DOB: 07/05/2002) was taken into custody without incident by Sebastopol Police Department officers at the Sebastopol Police Department. Mackenzie-Powell was arrested for an outstanding felony warrant for 32 PC – Accessory after the fact and 25850(c)(6) PC – Unlawful possession of a firearm, which stem from this case, and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

On Tuesday, October 26th, at approximately 8:35 AM, officers responded to a report of a shooting at Safeway, 406 North Main Street. Based on witness accounts, the suspect shot the victim in the leg and fled in a red vehicle.
During the course of the investigation and with assistance from the Petaluma Police Department, it was determined the suspect and the victim were acquaintances. The suspect was identified as Anakin Daniel Roy Taylor (22 years old). An arrest warrant was issued for Taylor for Assault on a person with a firearm, Felon in possession of a firearm, and Negligent discharge of a firearm.
On Friday, November 5th, Taylor was arrested in Reno, Nevada by the United States Marshals and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Taylor is awaiting extradition to Sonoma County.
