Police Advisory

Over the last several weeks the Altamont Police Department has received a number of reports of identity fraud involving Village residents.  All of the incidents appear to be connected to an ongoing, nationwide issue with PNC Bank accounts being opened fraudulently, resulting in debit or credit cards being sent to the victims.  Look out for mailers from PNC Bank that may be confused with junk mail, as they may contain actual credit cards.  If you receive fraudulent cards or accounts call PNC Bank and report the fraud and they will close the accounts.  Also, let us know here at the Police Department so we can do a report.  If you are a victim of identity theft it is also recommended you report the incidents to the Federal Trade Commission and the three major credit bureaus.  They include Equifax, TransUnion and Experian.  Feel free to call the Police Department at (518) 861-5480 with any questions you may have.  Thank you and be safe.
