El Cerrito Police Blotter November 5th to November 11th, 2021

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

November 5th

Vandalism, Drunk in Public, and Assault on Peace Officer – 600 block of Norvell St.

At 11:22 am, an officer reported the arrest of a 35 year old male. The male went to a family member’s residence and attempted to kick in the front door causing damage to the door and frame. The male was also very highly intoxicated. During the arresting process, the male attempted to bite an officer. The male was taken into custody and transported to county jail.

Petty Theft – 6400 Block of Portola Dr.

At 7:53 pm, an officer went to the report that someone had their mail stolen from their mailbox.

Auto Burglary- 6400 Block of Portola Dr.

While investigating the above crime the victim advised their vehicle had also been burglarized sometime on October 22nd

November 6th

Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Warrant Arrest – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza

At 2:38 am, an officer was patrolling in the area and noticed an occupied vehicle parked in the plaza that matched the description of a vehicle that was used in a shooting in El Cerrito three days earlier. When officers contacted the occupants of the vehicle, an officer noticed a firearm inside the vehicle. The subjects detained matched the description of the suspects in the shooting and were arrested. During a warrants check, one of the suspects was found to have an active warrant for his arrest for homicide issued by the Oakland Police Department.  Both suspects were booked at ECPD for their involvement in the shooting. Detectives were called out to interview the suspects. A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle and three additional firearms were located inside the vehicle. The subjects were both transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. This case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office to file charges.   

Vandalism – One Stop Laundromat, 10628 San Pablo Ave.

At 7:42 am, an officer reported a known suspect entered the business and caused a yet to be determined amount of damage during the evening. The suspect was identified and a police report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
 
Shoplifting – Walgreens, 11565 San Pablo Ave.
At 2:22 pm, an officer accepted the Citizen’s Arrest of a 17-year-old after the juvenile was identified as the responsible party in a shoplifting. A parent of the juvenile was contacted and gave permission for the child to be released with a signed promise to appear.

Grand Theft – 11100 block of San Pablo Ave.

At 9:35 pm, an officer was sent to the report that a catalytic converter had been stolen from the victim’s vehicle sometime in the last several hours. 

November 7th

Commercial Burglary – Panda Express, 5020 El Cerrito Plaza

At 3:35 am, officers were dispatched to a burglary that had just occurred at Panda Express. During the investigation, an officer located a suspect that matched the description of the suspect that was seen on video committing the burglary. The suspect was detained and subsequently arrested for the burglary. Officers conducted a warrants check and discovered the subject had two active warrants for his arrest.  One of the warrants was issued by the El Cerrito Police Department for a theft and the other was issued by the Albany Police Department for burglary. The suspect was also found to be in possession of stolen property that had been stolen during another commercial burglary from the El Cerrito Plaza earlier in the week. Detectives were callout to interview the suspect due to him being suspected of a series of burglaries that occurred at the EC Plaza. After the interview, the suspect was booked at ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Attempt Grand Theft – 2600 block of Francisco Way

At 4:12 am, an officer was sent to the call where the victim had scared off someone that was under their vehicle sawing off the catalytic converter.  The suspect did not steal the catalytic converter before he was scared off. 

November 8th

Brandishing a Firearm, Hit and Run – Arlington Blvd. / Potrero Ave. & 6800 block of Glen Mawr Ave.

At 10:54 am, officers were dispatched to a hit and run that just occurred involving a silver SUV.  Witnesses in the area stated the suspect fled on foot, northbound on Glen Mawr Ave.  Soon after the hit and run was broadcasted, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Arlington Blvd. and Potrero Ave. after a suspect pointed a firearm at two victims in their vehicle.  The suspect description, vehicle description, and license plate confirmed that the brandishing suspect and hit and run suspect were one in the same.  Officers were able to identify a 19-year-old Richmond man as the responsible suspect.  The man came to the police department 2 days later to speak with officers.  He was booked on the charges and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Grand Theft – Credence, 10300 San Pablo Ave. 

An officer reported between 11/3/21 at 8:00 pm to 11/8/21 at 8:45 am, an unknown suspect entered a common bicycle storage area and stole two electric bicycles. 

Commercial Burglary – PG&E, 7100 Schmidt Lane

At 2:58 am, an officer reported two unknown suspects cut a lock to the gate and entered a yard where they attempted to steal copper wire.

Vandalism – 2600 block of Arlington Blvd.

At 5:20 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect threw a rock at a home breaking a second story window.
 
November 9th
 
Vehicle Theft – 10700 block of San Pablo Ave.

At 8:33 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2002 BMW sedan. 

Shoplift – Walgreen’s, 11565 San Pablo Ave. 

At 9:00 am, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered the business and stole miscellaneous merchandise worth approximately $300. 

Grand Theft – 2400 block of Mira Vista Dr. 

An officer reported in between 11/5/21 at 12:00 pm to 11/7/21 at 7:00 pm, an unknown suspect stole the catalytic converter from the victim’s RV. 
    
Residential Burglary – 1700 block of Julian Ct. 

An officer reported in between 11:00 am and 11:30 am, an unknown suspect shattered the rear sliding glass door of a residence, entered, and stole the victims’ belongings. 

Indecent Exposure – Fairmount Ave. / Victoria Ct.

At 1:30 pm, an unknown suspect parked his vehicle next to a female standing on the sidewalk.  The male rolled down his window which got the attention of the victim.  When the victim looked inside the vehicle, she could see that the suspect was masturbating.  The victim immediately called 9-1-1 but the suspect had fled prior to police arrival. 

Shoplifting – Walgreens, 11565 San Pablo Ave.

At 8:26 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect entered the business and selected several cans of energy drink before fleeing the store.
 
November 10th

Violation of Domestic Violence Restraining Order – Portola Dr. / Ranchito Ct. 

At 10:17 pm, officers were dispatched to the area for a loud verbal argument.  Officers arrived and contacted a 43-year-old Richmond man and his girlfriend.  During the investigation, officers learned the man had three active domestic violence restraining orders barring him from contacting the female.  The man was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Theft of License Plate – 1600 block of Kearney St. 

An officer reported in between 11/9/21 at 6:00 pm and 11/10/21 at 12:00 pm, an unknown suspect stole the license plate,from the victim’s vehicle. 
 
November 11th

Shoplift – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza 

An officer reported at 11:08 am, an unknown suspect entered the business, stole multiple hygiene products and fled without paying. 

Vehicle Theft – Hagen Blvd. / Morris Ave.

At 9:49 pm, an officer reported an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle sometime over the past two days.

Domestic Battery, Robbery – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave.

At 1:04 am, an officer reported the victim was confronted by an ex-boyfriend who pepper sprayed the victim in the face and stole her purse. The suspect fled prior to police arrival; the victim was treated by EMS.
