LEADING WITH EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
Boys & Girls Club of Janesville (Janesville, WI)
Leaders from twelve organizations and companies in Janesville came together on Friday November, 12 to participate in “Leading with Equity, Diversity and Inclusion” training. The training was organized by the Boys & Girls Club of Janesville and made possible in part by a 2021 SSM Health Mini Grant aimed to address racial inequities in our community.
Boys & Girls Club of Janesville’s mission is to inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens. The Club strives to ensure all Club youth feel safe, heard, and empowered, while having equitable access to opportunities to reach their fullest potential– not just while at the Club, but everywhere in the community. “We cannot realize our mission without addressing racial and social inequities,” said Club CEO Rebecca Veium.
Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors and staff have taken a pledge to advance diversity, equity and inclusion with in the organization and the community. The SSM Health Mini Grant provided the Club an opportunity to put action behind those words by hosting the advanced training opportunity. Trainers Lisa Laude and Sindy Mondesir of HRKnowlegeSuite were selected for the session based on a number of factors, including their ability to customize the training to attendees and the Janesville community.
The day was filled with learning, courageous conversations, developing solutions and creating new partnerships. “This training was an example of how many local organizational leaders are committed to equity, diversity and inclusion in our own community,” said Sergeant Jennifer Wehmas, Janesville Police Department. “I walked away with new relationships, ideas and strategies to better serve our agency and the Janesville community. I look forward to our continued partnerships and future growth.”
Boys & Girls Club would like to thank leaders from the following organizations and companies for their commitment to this critical work and joining us for the training: Baker Tilly, City of Janesville (Neighborhood and Community Services, Recreation, Hedberg Public Library, Transit, Police Department), Data Dimensions, Comprehensive Family Services Head Start, Janesville Performing Arts Center, Kandu Industries, Rock County Human Services, School District of Janesville, SSM Health, United Way Blackhawk Region, and Target .
