FATAL PEDESTRIAN COLLISION

On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 4:54 pm, the Turlock Police Department received a call of a collision involving a pickup that had struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Lander Avenue and Ninth Street.  Officers responded to the scene and discovered the adult female pedestrian sustained life threatening injures and was being attended to by a passerby that was an off-duty nurse, who was performing CPR.  Officers took over CPR briefly, until relieved by firefighters with the Turlock Fire Department.

The female pedestrian was transported to a local area hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, despite efforts by our first responders.  The pedestrian is described as a sixty-six year-old female adult.  The identity of the pedestrian is not being released at this time.

The driver of the pickup is a forty-three year-old male, who remained on scene and is cooperating with this investigation.  The involved pickup, a dark colored GMC Sierra, was towed from the scene to be processed for evidence, which is standard protocol.

The Turlock Police Department is still in the early stages of investigating this collision, however, officers can say alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.

The investigation revealed the collision occurred as the female pedestrian was crossing Lander Avenue, within the crosswalk, walking eastbound.  The driver of the pickup was travelling northbound on Lander Avenue, in the number one lane, just before the collision.

The roadway was closed for nearly three hours while Officers investigated this incident, obtained statements and collected video evidence.
