Subject arrested for Attempted Murder
On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at approximately 2150 hours, Middle Township Police Department responded to the 300 block of Route 47 South for a report of a shooting. The incident was investigated by the Middle Township Patrol Division, Middle Township Major Crimes Unit and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation revealed the accused, Christopher Speigel, 55 years old of Wildwood, entered the home of the victim, fired one (1) round from a handgun towards a male victim and missing. The accused subject then struck the male victim and a female victim in the head with the butt of the handgun causing head injuries to both victims. Speigel then fled the scene in his vehicle and was later located and arrested at his home in Wildwood. The handgun was later found on the victim’s property. Both victims were familiar with Speigel and this was not considered a random act.
Speigel was charged with Attempted Murder, Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and two counts of Aggravated Assault. Speigel was placed in the Cape May County Correctional Center.
All charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless he is proven guilty.
