Mayor Bhalla and the City of Hoboken announce availability of COVID-19 vaccine booster appointments

Today, Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the Hoboken Health Department announced that the City will expand its COVID-19 vaccine clinic offerings to ensure individuals over the age of 18 can get their COVID-19 booster dose ahead of Thanksgiving.

This comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized booster doses for all adults this week, noting that those over the age of 18 may get a booster shot and those over the age of 50 should get a booster shot.

“The FDA and CDC’s decision to expand the eligibility requirements for COVID-19 booster shots could not have come at a more appropriate time,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “As we all look forward to gathering with loved ones over the Thanksgiving dinner table, it is crucial that we take every precaution to ensure we do so safely and that includes getting your booster shot. Health experts have said the effectiveness of the vaccine decreases over time, so please, if you have not yet received your booster or if you just became eligible, I strongly encourage you to do so as soon as possible.”

Beginning on Monday, Nov. 22, and for the two days following, the City will host booster clinics at 605 Jackson St. through partnerships with Medicine Man Pharmacy & Compounding and Hoboken Family Pharmacy.

The schedule is as follows:

Medicine Man Pharmacy & Compounding

  • Monday, Nov. 22, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Booster only)
  • Tuesday, Nov. 23, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Booster and pediatric vaccine only)

Hoboken Family Pharmacy

  • Monday, Nov. 22, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Booster and pediatric vaccine only)
  • Wednesday, Nov. 24, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Booster and pediatric vaccine only)

Appointments are required, and they can be booked online at www.hobokennj.gov/vaccine. Those seeking a booster shot must also bring their vaccine card.

According to the CDC and FDA, any adult who received their second dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at least six months ago is eligible to get their booster shot. Any recipients of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have already been cleared to get a booster shot at least two months after their injection.

The CDC had previously approved mixing and matching vaccines, meaning those seeking a booster can have their choice of Moderna, Pfizer, or Johnson & Johnson booster shots at City clinics.

Hoboken continues to offer COVID-19 testing through partnerships with local providers several days per week at 605 Jackson St.
