#UPDATE LASD Homicide Assisting West Covina PD with Officer Involved Shooting, 700 blk N Sunset Av, West Covina
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the West Covina Police Officer involved shooting of a male Hispanic adult. The incident occurred on Monday, November 22, 2021, at approximately 12:33 p.m., near the 700 block of N. Sunset Avenue in the city of West Covina.
Officers assigned to a US Marshalls Taskforce, were attempting to apprehend a suspect who was wanted for an outstanding parole warrant and an assault with a deadly weapons charge. As the officers observed the suspect inside a vehicle in the rear parking lot of the location, he exited and attempted to flee on foot. As the officers attempted to detain the suspect, he produced a firearm and an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck multiple times in the upper torso and was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
The involved officer is a West Covina Police Officer assigned to the US Marshalls Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Taskforce. This Taskforce conducts apprehensions of violent fugitives.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic, approximately 40 years of age.
A firearm was recovered at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing and investigators are processing evidence and canvassing the area for surveillance video.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau detectives are responding to the 700 block of North Sunset Avenue, West Covina, to assist West Covina Police Department investigate the circumstances surrounding an Officer-Involved shooting.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were injured.
The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
