Holiday Safety Message

I wanted to take a brief moment to wish everyone a very happy, safe and warm holiday season. I also wanted to assure all of you that as is the case this year and every year, the officers and support staff of the West Windsor Police Department tirelessly and happily engage with the community. Whether it is to visit a lemonade stand, stop out at a community event or provide assistance to stranded motorists, our Officers look forward to these many events. We will also be out there looking for people committing criminal acts. Our Detective Bureau makes daily development checks, where they ride through random developments each and every day to check for suspicious activity and people sitting in cars who appear to be checking out houses or vehicles. Our patrol squads run speed enforcement at random locations on the hundreds of West Windsor streets that need attention. They also provide vacant house services where they check homes that are vacant as well as the developments they are in to ensure all is well. We also have been investigating the many crimes and shopliftings which occur and work with County and State partners to solve these crimes.

Many of you are concerned about the recent wave of vehicle thefts and rightly so. We have all the resources possible out working with our partners to put a stop to this state wide problem. I am truly troubled and angry about the senseless loss of life. There is not a day that does not go by that I meet with the command staff to discuss new ideas on how we can put an immediate stop to this. Until then, I implore everyone to follow basic safety measures no matter where you live. Please lock your cars and your homes and remove keys from your vehicles. Use good lighting and security cameras. Shut windows and arm security systems when you leave for the day and when you go to bed at night. These simple steps become routine and make life safer for all our family members including our pets.
Rest assured we will provide extra attention to all our religious organizations as we have done throughout the year. Any and all township events will have extra coordination with our County, State and Federal partners to provide secure perimeters along with routine bomb sweeps from our world famous K9’s. Plain clothes and uniform officers will always be part of the celebration and be looking out for you and your family (Including Pets).

I want each and every one of you to rest easy and enjoy this holiday season knowing we will always be at the forefront of your safety and well-being no matter the time of day or day of the week.
Stay safe & warm!
Chief Garofalo
