Barstow Deputies Make Arrests in Stolen Vehicle Case
DATE/TIME: November 16, 2021, at approximately 6:12a.m.
INCIDENT: Theft of a Vehicle, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of Controlled Substance While Armed, Possession of an Unregistered Weapon
LOCATION: 37000 block of Calico Blvd, Yermo
SUSPECTS: Justin Philips, age 28, resident of Newberry Springs
James Dunham, age 31, resident of Newberry Springs
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, Deputy Hancock from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Barstow Station, conducted a stolen vehicle investigation. A compressor trailer and miscellaneous tools were stolen from the KOA campground in Yermo during the early morning hours. The stolen trailer was located at a residence in the 37000 block of Calico Blvd, Yermo, during the investigation.
The investigation led to the service of a search warrant at the residence to recover the stolen trailer and stolen property. During the investigation, Justin Philips of Newberry Springs was found in possession of a stolen vehicle and the stolen tools. During a search of the stolen vehicle, deputies located a loaded 9mm, unregistered semi-automatic pistol. Additional stolen items were also found in the vehicle. Philips was found to have multiple warrants for his arrest.
Deputies also arrested James Dunham at the residence for possession of stolen property after deputies determined he was directly involved in the theft of the trailer. During the investigation, Deputies discovered some of the property found in the vehicle was related to a burglary of a trailer in the parking lot of a nearby hotel.
Philips and Dunham were arrested and booked at the Barstow Jail on various charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a loaded firearm while in possession of a control substance, and outstanding warrants.
