Death of inmate
At 6:54 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2021, Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the 9300 block of E US Highway 40. One of the drivers involved, William Myles, 36, tested .329 on a portable breathalyzer device at the scene. He was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital after agreeing to a blood draw. The hospital administered test recorded a blood alcohol level of .361. Myles remained at the hospital until being medically cleared by Regional Hospital personnel. Myles was then arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and transported to the Vigo County Jail. At 3:17 p.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2021, Myles suffered an apparent seizure while interacting with jail medical staff. Emergency personnel were immediately summoned and jail medical staff members initiated CPR when it was determined Myles had no pulse. Myles was transported from the jail to Union Hospital where he subsequently died. The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has initiated an investigation into the circumstances of Myles’ arrest, illness, and death that remains incomplete currently. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Myles and his family. John Plasse Vigo County Sheriff
